Designer of the Week - Natasha Eveleigh

This week we interviewed the designer Natasha Eveleigh - one of the winners in the Make It In Design Summer School that we sponsored. Her own brand of British-inspired illustrated florals, bold colours and iconic graphics make her work eye-catching and unique.

We asked her a couple of questions about her inspirations and projects to learn more about her.

 What is your studio name and location?

Natasha Eveleigh Design located in South West Somerset

- Which design school did you study at ( if you did)? 

I am a self taught designer, always picking up tips and inspirations where I can. I have completed the first 2 Make it in Design courses and taken part in as many competitions as I can to really challenge myself and expand my portfolio.

- When did you first start being interested in design? 

  I have always had a passion for art and design. My love for pattern and colour is obvious throughout my home, in what I wear and now in the designs I create. Despite studying a-level art at college I followed a different path and became a nurse. This has been an amazing career, enabling me to travel the world and work with some wonderful people, unfortunately this left my creative path untrodden.

It was when I became a mum 2 years ago that I couldn't hold my creativity back  any longer. That's when I discovered the world of surface pattern design, and became completely addicted. So I took the plunge to follow my dream and signed up for the first Make it in Design course, I haven't looked back since.

 - Describe your style for us in 10 words? 

 Hand drawn illustrations with bold pallets creating a fresh look.

 - What / who are your major influences? 

 I'm mainly Influenced by nature and love what different cultures have to offer to the pattern world.   

- What are you working on at the moment? 

 I am currently working on a collaboration with my sister for a gift card collection and soon to be starting the Make it in Design course ,  Module 3. 

- What do you hope to accomplish in the future? 

 I hope to be able to be a succesful pattern designer with my own brand one day.

- What tips would you give new designers starting out? 

 Don't compare yourself with others and be yourself. Keep going, never give up on your dreams. Work hard to make them a reality and you will live a happy life.
